One day, Cathy went to the school for her normal library volunteer day, but she was told she needed to attend an all-school assembly instead, which was unusual. A few minutes into the assembly, the principal called her to the front for story time. She hadn’t prepared a story for that setting and was a bit confused. Then the first-grade class came up and took turns reading her the book See You Later, Alligator by Sally Hopgood. They gave Cathy a copy signed by many students and including written comments of gratitude from school board members. She also received an engraved plaque: Thank you for 15 years of outstanding volunteer service to the Skykomish School District. Your kindness, dedication, and unwavering support have touched countless lives and strengthened our school community.
