I was invited to be “Chaplain of the Day” at the Nebraska State Legislature in Lincoln. Our district’s state senator, Dave Murman, took me onto the floor of the legislature and introduced me. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, I opened the day’s session with prayer. Then Senator Murman and I walked down the center aisle, and I was greeted by the senators individually. After watching the proceedings for over an hour, Brenda and I met with Pastor Arin Hess, the full-time missionary chaplain at the Capitol. He told us about the Christian heritage of our state and about the Bible studies and the lunch meetings he holds for senators. In seeing firsthand the process of deliberation over bills, we were reminded of the importance of praying for our elected officials and seeking God’s guidance in the passing of laws.
